Welcome to Achtkarspelen

Achtkarspelen is an attractive municipality in the northeast of the province Friesland with over 28.000 residents. The municipality consists of eleven villages: Augustinusga, Boelenslaan, Buitenpost, Drogeham, Gerkesklooster-Stroobos, Harkema, Kootstertille, Surhuisterveen, Surhuizum, Twijzel en Twijzelerheide. The town-hall is in Buitenpost. Surhuisterveen is the largest town in the municipality with a population of almost 5750 residents. Achtkarspelen is next to the province Groningen and centrally situated between the cities Groningen en Leeuwarden, that is why the municipality is a very attractive location for industry and companies.
